Muladhara

Muladhara: The 1st Root

The first Chakra is called Muladhara, or the first root. Muladhara refers to the home, and is a main source of security for the body. The color of the first root is a deep red, and the element is earth. It is located at the base of the spine, and is the foundation to allow our identities to flourish. The Yantra symbol is a yellow square surrounded by four red petals, which are representative of the four directions of the earth. Two attributes that are associated with Muladhara are patience and greed. When one has an unbalanced root Chakra, one will experience abandonment, isolation, low self-esteem, and a sense of greed. They will eventually go through a survival crisis, an excess of greed, and an obsession with hoarding possessions. When the root Chakra is balanced, one will feel safe, a sense of belonging, and a connection to others. One will accept peace within oneself, and capture the ability to bring the body back to earth.

In order to heal the root Chakra, it is recommended that one should inhale sweet and earthy essential oils. Vetiver, Patchouli and Helichrysum are highly recommended.

A few flower essences that are able to stimulate Muladhara are corn, clematis and rosemary.
